Merry Christmas!

Well, Christmas is over for another year! I hope everyone had a great holiday with family and friends. This is the only picture we have of the cousins together this Christmas. It was lively at the Wakefield house this year! Stephen and I enjoyed Christmas very much this year, although Grant will not remember any of it. We can't wait until he gets older and can enjoy the festivities. Hopefully, I will download the rest of the Christmas pictures soon. More to come!

Christmas Countdown

Christmas will be here before we know it! We had some fun and dressed Grant up in a Santa suit. Hunter produced the biggest and practically only smile from Grant. We think he has just realized that Hunter could possibly be something fun for him to play with.
I hope they become good buds!

To Drool or Not to Drool

Grant has reached yet another developmental milestone- drooling! Anything and everything (mostly his hands) finds its way into his mouth. This new accomplishment, while messy, will eventually benefit our little guy with a new set of teeth!

Christmas is Coming!

Grant can't wait to see his Uncle Brian, Aunt Liz, James, Anna and cousin Luke. One more week until they get here!

Savannah Trip

Yesterday we took a quick trip with our friends to Savannah. We go every year in order to eat at the famous Lady and Sons restaurant. It was delicious as always! This was also Grant's first road trip. He did great. We enjoyed the day, but next year we want to spend the night. There is too much to see in just one day!

Baby Update

Grant now enjoys playing in his walker. His feet do not touch the ground so we have to put a pillow underneath him. He wants to sit up all of the time so he can see the world around him. Grant also likes to watch his Baby Einstein DVD. It is amazing how quickly he is changing.

He's grown so much!

Grant was just 4 days old in this picture. He was so tiny! I can't believe how quickly he is growing.

Update

I must apologize for my long overdue update. Since my last attempt at blogging I have returned to work. It has been pretty busy around here, but we are finally settling in to a routine. Grant is growing like a weed! We had his 2 month check-up a couple of weeks ago and he weighed 13.6 pounds and had grown 3.5"!!! He is quickly out growing all of his clothes! He is now 11 weeks old and is bringing Stephen and I so much joy. I don't know what we ever did without him.

I promise to do better at keeping up with the blog. Melissa how do you find time to do this?

The Scary Funkin

Last year we decided to carve Funkins (http://www.funkins.com/) instead of pumpkins for Halloween. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Funkin, they are foam pumpkins of various shapes and sizes that are hollow. This enables you to carve it like a traditional pumpkin. You can also light up the funkin with a battery operated light. Unlike a pumpkin, you can reuse your cherished funkin year after year if you please. This funkin, however, was carved by Stephen. I am not sure if scared is the correct word to use when referring to the reaction you get when you first see it. I am still unsure of how he was able to carve the crooked mustache??!!

Grant's Favorite Things

Here are just a few of the things that Grant enjoys. He loves bath time. I think he is going to be a swimmer! He also has fun during tummy time on his surfboard mat. Of course, like most babies, he also LOVES his swing!!!

Happy Halloween

Grant was Tiger for his first Halloween. I bought this outfit the week before he was born hoping he would fit in it by Halloween. He is so cute in it! Kids don't trick or treat on our road due to the fact that it is not an efficient way to collect candy. (too far to walk between houses) We did, however, have trunk or treat at church on Sunday evening. We dressed Grant up and brought our Halloween decorations to decorate the back of our car. Unfortunately, we forgot our camera so I do not have pictures from his first trunk or treat. Papa did bring his camera and he snapped a few for us. We will have to get a copy of the pictures from him. It was so cute because all of the other babies at church were dressed up as well. I wish I could put a picture of all them on my site. Grant is the only boy born this year out of six girls. The girls were dressed as a flower, caterpillar, butterfly and bumble bee.

As you can see, Hunter was Batman this year. Somehow he has stuck to the super hero theme for several years now. We tried to get a good picture of Hunter and Grant in costume, but Grant was a little uncooperative.

Late Night with Grant

For those of you who have had the pleasure of a newborn in your house you may recall the lack of sleep one gets these first few weeks. When Grant first came home from the hospital he was up every hour or so for a diaper change and feeding. I thought this kid was never going to let me sleep more than 30 minutes at a time. Fortunately, the past couple of weeks my son has settled into a nighttime routine. I am not one of the lucky parents who can boast that their baby slept through the night at six weeks old! Contrary to my sister's recent blog, (http://mae4373.blogspot.com), my baby does not generally sleep well. (He just behaves himself in public.) Grant usually falls asleep about 11pm (that's late for us!) and wakes up twice a night for a meal (usually between 1-2am and again around 5 am). This is progress for us and I hope that he sleeps longer by the time I have to return to work!

Last night, however, we were sound asleep when the phone rings about midnight. NO! I sleepily crack one eye open to read the caller ID. Wrong number! I don't know who the crazy person is calling our house this late. So I decide to ignore it and let the answering machine pick it up. Of course the person must of realized that they called the wrong house and they did not leave us a message. Grant was stirring in his bed and beginning to cry. "Go back to sleep!" I thought. No such luck. He goes into a fit of crying. I scoop him up and begin to feed him hoping that this would comfort him enough to fell asleep. The phone rings again and this time I answer it. The person hung up! After a few minutes of snacking he was out of it, so I carefully placed him back in his bed. No sooner had I sat down on the bed prepared to return to slumber did his eyes open and the crying began again. This routine repeated itself a few more times when I finally gave in a got up. We had a diaper change, and then I decided to give him a bottle and rock him back to sleep. I even turn on his Celine Dion "Miracles" CD which has worked in the past. He would quickly fall asleep and after a few cautious minutes I would try to put him back in his bed. Of course he would wake up instantly!! By this point in time I was seriously thinking of calling the unknown number back and letting them listen to my 6 week old wail. The CD had played in its entirety before I got Grant back to sleep around 2 am! Hopefully, tonight he will return to waking for a short feeding and we won't have any late night phone calls.
